According to System 3’s CEO, Mark Cale, systems that can successfully run their new title “Ferrari Challenge” are a step ahead of the game. However he did imply that the good ole’ Xbox360 may not be capable of taking on such a challenge. He was quoted saying
“The PS3 offers the most powerful opportunity in the global marketplace.”
He also made comments that 1080p displays are much better than regular HD. The game currently runs at a steady 30 frames per second and Cale said that racing games don’t need to be at rates such as 60fps since you are just driving forward. People are questioning his words with regards to the capabilities of the 360 because many other games demoed feautures such as rain effects, precipitation, fog, etc.
With graphics aside, Ferrari Challenge still steps up to the plate with simulation standard handling such as variable braking (not just full stop or no stop) and reactivity to external environmental features such as tar, grass, dirt, water, bumps, etc. The game is a full on simulator meaning regular race fans may have a hard time actually successfully driving cars (due to the need for a steering wheel, gas/brake kit, etc.) but luckily the publishers were kind enough to include an “Assists” feature which slaps on some arcade style to your driving, meaning you don’t have to focus on the driving, but more on having fun.
Some of the features of the game include 15 race tracks, 16-player multiplayer mode, very advance AI cars, and much more. The CEO even went on the mention that the “Gran Turismo” game is a “Fake Simulator”. He must really have something whipped up for us. The game is set to hit shelves on Labour Day. There is also said the be downloadable content (5 cars and 1 track per month).
