Correction: No RACE360

Posted by: Bradley Wint on June 30, 2008 at 11:24 am

It seems the rumours and hype about the new RACE360, is not true after all. SimBin posted an official statement on their site today.

“We are issuing this statement to counter false rumours currently circulating on the internet regarding a new X360 game.
We do have plans for an upcoming X360 game and an official announcement from Simbin will follow shortly with correct information on title and publisher.
To clarify on a specific point, THQ is not the publisher of our upcoming X360 game.
The information currently circulating is incorrect, said Magnus Ling, Vice President, Simbin Studios.”

SimBin Development Team AB - June 30, 2008

It is said that an Xbox sim from SimBin is still in the works, but we just have to wait and see when it comes out. Where thoses screen shots came from, well we do not know for sure.

RACE 360 First Screens - Scanned

Posted by: Bradley Wint on June 29, 2008 at 3:52 pm

Gerrit, a member of VirtualR, sent them some scanned photos of RACE 360. From what we can see, there is the BMW M3 from RACE 07 but there are some new rides such as the BMW Z4M and Aston Martin DBR9. Lizard promotional ads in game also hint that the game may be using this. There is also speculation that some cars will come from the GTR Evolution simulation. Please note, this is just the opinion of VirtualR, there are no official sources proving this. Screens are shown below.

PSL’s Look At The WheelStand Pro G25

Posted by: Bradley Wint on June 27, 2008 at 12:49 pm

The Admin at PlaystationLeague was able to review a new portable cockpit stand system called the Wheel Stand Pro - G25. The idea behind it is that it combines your regular steering wheel, pedals and shift system into one small and space-saving unit. It’s also useful when you may not have the right furniture to rest your steering wheel on. It is good for both PC and console racing systems. When you get your WS Pro kit, it comes with the stand as well as the appropriate plate holders (i.e. for food pedals, gearshift, etc). There is also a spanner, 2 hex keys and instruction guide. The set up seems to be simple, you just mount the wheel on, then add the respective plates where you would like to place your gearshift and other devices. The plates have a rubber surface and the units are placed on it. There is no locking mechanism but the rubber seems to grip the units in place. The author noticed no slippage, even after hours of play.

Cabling is not really messy as tie-pins are included, so you could wrap all cables in a nice bundle. The stand’s feet also have rubber rings which allow firm grip to the floor, whether it be wood, tiles or carpet. They are also adjustable for different contours. When you need to put away the unit, just remove the steering wheel, pedals and what not and fold the unit together. When folded, it is very small and can be placed in any cupboard for easy storage.

The only negative here is it is a bit expensive going at US $198. Otherwise, it’s a really great system, very sturdy and easy to set up/dismantle. It was given a rating of 9/10. There is currently a limited discount offer at the WheelStand Pro Website. For more details however, you need to check out the author’s post here.

Logitech Unveils Gran Turismo Wheel

Posted by: Bradley Wint on June 25, 2008 at 11:34 pm

Logitech has announced their new product, the Logitech Driving Force GT racing wheel, which is the official wheel of the Gran Turismo 5 racing game. It features force feedback and a 24-position dial, which can allow drivers “on-the-fly” changes to car settings (brake bias, damper, traction, etc.) while in game. The wheel was developed by the partnetship of Logitech and Polyphony Digital, Inc (Gran Turismo developers). Their aim was to bring a 100% real driving experience to the Gran Turismo series.

The steering wheel’s force feedback system is said to simulate understeer, oversteer, and traction loss very accurately. There is also a full sized pedal kit featuring throttle and brake. Also there is the option of the sequential stick shift or the wheel-mounted paddles. The 11-inch wheel is padded with rubber for total comfort while driving. Sounds even better than your real car’s steering wheel, doesn’t it? The wheel turns just like a real one (2 1/2 times side to side or 900º). This ensures precise accuracy when turning tricky corners. From the looks of it, this would be a great wheel for other racers such as NASCAR and Formula 1, since those games require tip-top accurate manoevres.

“We have always designed the Gran Turismo series for driving enthusiasts. Realistic graphics, a technologically advanced physics engine and authentic sounds for every car in the game make Gran Turismo 5 Prologue a true driving simulator”

“Now, with the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel, drivers can have unparalleled control of their car, extending the realistic racing experience.” - Kazunori Yamauchi of Polyphony Digital.

The unit is said to be out some time either in the late summer into early fall period.

Forum Theme Re-Instated

Posted by: Bradley Wint on June 25, 2008 at 12:04 am

Well the custom forum theme has finally been re-instated. The theme being used before was incompatible from a security standpoint, causing people’s accounts to be force locked down. However all is well now. Take a look.
