In a press release from EA Freestyle division, Nascar Kart Racing’s announce date was released. It is now carded to hit shelves on February 10th, 2009. Here is the official press release, giving us some insider details about what to expect.

Designed exclusively for the Wii, NASCAR Kart Racing enables players to grab the steering wheel as a famed NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and speed through treacherous landscapes, wind around rocky cliffs, jump rivers and dodge falling boulders. Up to four players can go head-to-head, via split screen, in a mad dash to the checkered flag, making NASCAR Kart Racing an ideal game to play with family and friends.

Enjoy the thrill of racing as three-time consecutive Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson or choose from 13 additional NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers. Players can also compete as one of 10 original animated characters. Each driver has personal attributes that will determine how the kart will perform on a course, so strategy is key when choosing a driver and a teammate. Teams that work together win championships!

Each track in NASCAR Kart Racing can be reversed to provide two unique racing experiences.

Your journey to become a champion in NASCAR Kart Racing begins by competing in 13 series against featured drivers from different racing backgrounds. Defeat the rivals of each series to unlock new courses, drivers, game modes and the next series. Beat all of the events at a track and you will receive a track sponsorship complete with billboards featuring your driver’s face–an obvious statement to your family and friends that you are the top competitor. Nascar Kart Racing - Debut Trailer

Posted by: Bradley Wint on December 4, 2008 at 8:38 am

In our previous post, we talked about a NASCAR game coming to the Nintendo Wii from EA, well here is the debut trailer. It is very much what was expected, with kart style, small racing vehicles in the shape of NASCARs and drivers with huge heads. The racing fun doesn’t stop there. While racing you can perform little tricks, attack other drivers with special abilities and much more, making it an all out duel to be the winner. I guess you can say that was expected, since the idea was based on the whole Mario Kart concept. Check out the video below.

NASCAR Game Coming To The Wii

Posted by: Bradley Wint on November 25, 2008 at 8:24 am

EA has decided to created a NASCAR style game for the Wii, which is said to be a wacky version of what we know NASCAR to be. Instead of racing around in officially licensed cars with some of our favourite drivers, it is said that the cars will be karts and have the overall shape of the NASCARs. Also, it may be possible that we can see drivers, but with oversized heads.

The game will be on a more cartoonish, arcade style of racing, similar to that of Mario Kart, but in-game tracks will still retain the usual oval shape. Currently, the release date is set for the 12th of February 2009, but it might or might not change and we come down to the actual date.

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 Announced

Posted by: Bradley Wint on November 19, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Codemasters has officially announced the new game, Colin McRae: DiRT 2. In an interview with IGN, the creators of DiRT 2 had something to say about the game. They commented a lot about the EGO engine’s improvements (same one used in GRID), and spoke about some of the things to come soon. Here is an excerpt from the interview.

Last time we saw the EGO engine in GRID it was looking pretty spectacular – how much room for improvement was there for its third outing in DiRT 2?We made key improvements to the EGO engine during the GRID project which lifted the quality of the game to a level we were very happy with. The development team have learnt a lot from the development of GRID, and have strengthened massively in their ability to get the most out of the hardware, notably pushing SPU usage on PS3, improving multi-core performance on Xbox 360 and adding PC specific features and technology. In DiRT 2, we’re building on these changes to the engine, adding more physical modelling of the environment, improving lighting and shadowing, and broadening the use of our streaming system to allow much higher texture detail. Overall these changes mean we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible with the hardware as much as possible, and we’re confident in our ability to lift the quality bar again.

The career progression was an excellent part of GRID – will there be a similar mode in DiRT 2?

Absolutely, the single-player experience is a very important part of our games. For DiRT 2, we wanted to create a journey for the player which encapsulated the spirit of off-road racing – it’s about travelling the world in your RV, hitting off-road festivals and building your rep as a driver. Along the way you’ll build friendships with the stars of the off-road world – like Travis Pastrana and Ken Block – and these relationships help you move up the ladder. If you get on well with someone like Ken Block, he’ll invite you to cooler events and even offer to team up with you from time to time.
